Misheard

Misheard

Find and fix the words your auto-captions got wrong.

For YouTubers who fix their own auto-captions: it flags the names, jargon and mishearings and proposes the correction, so you review a short list instead of re-reading the whole video.

Works with any SRT or VTT file.

No captions file to hand?

How it works

  1. Download your video's auto-captions from YouTube Studio.
    How to download them

In YouTube Studio: Subtitles → pick the video → Edit next to the language → Options → Download subtitles.

Menu names as of October 2026.

  2. Upload the file here. It is scanned at once for Flags (words or phrases that look misheard). Add the video link too if you like, to play each one while you review.
  3. Run the AI read-through: optional but recommended. The local scan alone is hit-or-miss; the AI reads your whole captions file and catches mistakes the scan can't see. It's free up to the Free tier's Allowance of 10,000 words in any 24 hours, or you can use your own OpenRouter key. Nothing is sent to an AI until you ask for it on the review page: running the AI read-through sends its text to OpenRouter's model provider.
  4. Review the Flags: accept or reject each one.
  5. Export the corrected file and upload it back to YouTube Studio.
    How to upload it back

In YouTube Studio: Subtitles → pick the video → ADD LANGUAGE (or ADD under Subtitles) → Upload file → With timing → Continue → choose the file → Save.

Your uploaded captions are kept alongside the original captions and must be published: if they aren't, the auto-captions remain the only live captions.

Menu names as of October 2026.

English captions only: the detectors and the known-good word lists are English.

With a video link, you can play the flagged words on the review page. You can add, change or remove it there later.

Your transcript is kept for 24 h after you last use it, or until you delete it.
